Samuel McGlennon is a PhD Candidate at the Australian National University, currently based at CIFOR in Bogor, Indonesia. His research explores the synergies and tensions between initiatives governing 'distant environmental impacts', including corporate and government sourcing policies, import-prohibiting legislation and multi-stakeholder forums. These initiatives are largely focused on environmentally-significant products, such as tropical timber and other wood products, palm oil, beef and soya. Sam's research is intended to contribute to a 'macro' understanding of how effectively these initiatives govern the impacts of international trade in these products, and what further might be done to remedy those impacts.
